You have entered the Room of Countess Elizabeth Bathory
She is probrably one of the most known female serial killers of all time. She is better well known that Lizzie Borden because Lizzie was thought to have killed only her mother and father. But Countess Elizabeth Bathory was said to have murdered more than 600 women in her life span, all so that she could keep her beauty and bathe in their blood. The beautiful young Countess was born in 1560 and lived her life throughout the 16th century. She was the niece of Stephen Bathory and they were very well to do, very powerful figures in their Hungarian homeland. Christopher Bathory had gone on to become the Prince of Transylvania. SO the Bathory name was well known throughout the country. Elizabeth was promised to at ten years of age to Ferencz Nadasdy who was a professional soldier, and was married to him at age fifteen. Keeping with her family tradition, Elizabeth kept her family name throughout their marriage.
Elizabeth had engaged in many sexual affairs while her husband was away fighting. It had been rumoured that she had become pregnant and later paid hush money to several people while having the child adopted away before anyone could find out what had happened. No one to this day knows if Ferencz knew of his wife's urge to kill or her murders, but he himself had a knack of torturing men and women, not all of them to their death, but he himself was cruel and may not have cared what his wife was doing with her servants and other poor women about. Over time, Elizabeth herself became prone to torture, she delighted in it, especially against her young servant girls. It has been believed that girls as young as 12 years of age fell victim to the Countess and her bloodlust. Elizabeth had been told that in other countries, bathing in a young girl's blood would help to keep an older woman beautiful. Believing this and fearing for her own beauty, even at only age 24, Elizabeth began her murderous spree, torturing and killing as many young beautiful women as she could get away with. Elizabeth's downfall came when she began to become sloppy in her disposal of the corpses. She began simply tossing them out of her carriage to be left for the wolves and wild dogs. It became quite an expensive habit, one the Countess could no longer afford without help from the King. In the end, the Countess was tried and sentenced. She was locked away in one of her own towers, left there completely walled in until her death some two years later. Countess Bathory is still one of history's most notorius female serial killers. She has been called the female Dracula and much worse. It was later found that she had several accomplices to her torturing and murdering habits, all were sentenced and also put to death for their crimes.
