The Grim Reaper
-----------------------------------
One of my favorite "monsters" has always been the Grim Reaper.
Cloaked in a long black cowl and a hood that comes down over whatever face he may have, the Reaper is definitely a creature of mystery.
Armed with a long dark scythe or sickle, the Reaper is said to wipe away thousands of sinners just as the farmer's sickle or scythe wipes out thousands of crops in one felt swoop.
The Reaper has an interesting history if you go back to the Greek Mythology of Chronos.
He was a god of harvest who also carried a long shimmering scythe.
Many people fear the Reaper because he resembles death for them.
This can be true if you look at it as his job.
The Grim Reaper does not actually kill anyone, but instead reaps the souls of sinners away and casts them in the pit of eternity until they can be judged.
You cannot outrun the Grim Reaper and you cannot bargain with him as some movies or cartoons have depicted.
Once you have seen him, your time is then up.
Reapers may or may not actually exist, since no liivng person can lay claim to having ever seen him, the only ones who know can no longer tell us.
Or can they......

Some people believe that the origin of the Reaper has dated back before Chronos, however there has been no actual prrof of any such thing.
There have however been records kept and reports of drawings from the grave.
In a small field in Canton Ohio in the early 1920's, a young man was said to have been seen walking along a rural country road.
It was later found that the young man had been killed on that road in an accident.
The following morning after the sighting, there was a strange piece of paper lying in the area of the young man.
On the paper was an odd shaped drawing that was of a tall man-shaped image wearing a long flowing robe of white.
That was enough to cause certain people to believe in the Reaper's existence.
No other physical proof has ever surfaced to deny or confirm this.
Another common name for the cloak or cowl that the Reaper wears is a Death Shroud, Death Cowl or Death Cloak of Darkness.
It is important to keep in mind that the early Christians felt that the Grim Reaper was evil and was so depicted throughout history.
But truth in origin be known, the Grim Reaper is not for good nor evil.
He answers only to the call of death and does not actually kill anyone.
Once the person he has been sent forth by death to claim has taken their last breathe, then and only then will the Reaper go and collect their soul to be held for judgement day.
Many mis-conceptions have abounded regarding the Reaper, but thus far there is no strong ties to truth or lie, you either believe or you dont.
We all shall see one day
