| POLTERGEIST ------------------------------------ Alot of people didn't like this movie, which I didn't understand. For something right out of the 80's, it gave the viewer quite a scare. It wasn't your average today type horror movie but it did however give the viewer one hell of a scare in certain parts. It had everything from the special effects of ghosts coming through a door and crawling meat filled with maggots inching across a table, to a terrified reporter and ghost hunter peeling his face off in front of a bathroom mirror. The Movie was actually based on an old Twilight Zone episode called, "Little Girl Lost". It starred such fine actors and actresses as Beatrice Straight, JoBeth WIlliams and Craig T Nelson of the "Coach" televsion series. Poltergesit became famous for the little girl's one statement, "Mommy, they're here" It became a battle betwenn good and evil as the parents of this little girl battled the demons from the other side (via the televison set) for their daughter whom had crossed over to the other side. On a rating scale of actual horror, this movie probrably wouldn't measure up by today's standards. But if you want a good, scary ghostly movie to keep you on the edge of your seat, then go get a copy of Poltergeist and go back in time to an age where horror was still fun This movie was rated 9 out of 10 on Scary Dog's Poll of top 100 Best movies. |
| PET SEMETARY ---------------------------------- A frightening Stephen King experience that left the viewer asking themselves what the hell had just happened. Most critics hate this movie, but it was one of King's works of genius that kept the viewer wanting more and more of this movie. The storyline was simple, a young Dr moves into a rural town with his wife and two children. They quickly befriend an old man (Fred Gywnne AKA Herman Munster)) The old man shows the father an old cenetary used for pets who have been killed along the highway or ones who just simply died. Well, as fate would have it, the family cat dies and so the old man takes the young Dr to another cemetary...one used by Native American's years ago to ressurect their dead. The young Dr burys his cat there and low and behold....the cat comes back to life. It isnt until the young Dr's son is hit and killed by a truck that the movie gets really ass kicking. He of course wants his boy back, so he buries him up in the Pet Semetary, and yes the boy comes back to life. The movie simply picks up, intensfies and stuns the audience into watching, never being able to take their eyes off the screen. One of the best horror movies to come along in 1989, however the sequel, Pet Semetary II was weak, lame and had little input or speed the way the first one did. Rated 10 on Scary Dog's review poll. |
