| IT'S ALIVE ----------------------------- Movies seldom pass the eye of a critic without being ripped and torn to shreds before it's even given a chance. This movie got just such a reward. It was about a baby who turns out to be a monster. At birth, the monster child kills the entire medical staff and goes on to do far worse from there. It's Alive came out in 1974 and was shunned almost automatically by the critics. The teenage community however thought it was the next greatest thing to the Blob. The father of the creature of course still loves his child and wants to protect it even thought the entire police force wants it dead. Rick baker did the make up effects and although the baby is really never seen, the glimpse you do get, albeit brief is enough to scare the living hell out of you. For the most part this movie was crap, the critics were right about that. But the over all storyline and cinematography were not all that bad. If you want a movie to watch when everyone is asleep, then rent it, it's not as bad as the critics said, just a little cheesy. |

| INTERVIEW WITH THE VAMPIRE ---------------------------------------------- Starred Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt. This movie had a huge budget and was a huge hit. Christian Slater even got to star in this movie and the special effects were incredible. I admit, when I first saw it I was not impressed. 1994 was a rather slow year for me and I wasn't thinking as clearly as I am these days. I have since re-watched this masterpiece and it is much much better than I had orginally thought. Cruise does a magnificent job at playing Lestat, who bites Pitt and turns him into one of his children. The movie is based off the best selling novel by Ann Rice and takes Vampire movies to whole new level. Crusie and Pitt do their best in this movie and the chilling way it comes across to the viewer is absolute. The gore (what they called gore) was unreal, meaning it was really very good for a Vampire movie. It was almost utterly chilling when recapping things. Kirsten Dunst also does an excellent job, something else I had somehow missed during my first watched it. This is a very good movie and though you have most likely already watched it, you may want to rewatch it as I did if you found yourself grossed out or not caring much for it. The movie followed right along with the novel for the most part and succeeded in reaching an all new horro film status. |
