LORD OF ILLUSION --------------------------------------- This 1995 horror movie was directed by Clive Barker (Hellraiser) It starred Kevin O'Conner and Scott Bacula It was a pretty decent horror movie for Barker but nothing even close to Hellraiser. Bacula plays a private investigator within the paranormal field who is contacted by a young wife who says she and her husband are being threatened by a cult group. It seems that the cult are awaiting their evil leader's ressurection from the dead. O'Conner plays a world famous magician who thought that he had long since buried the evil one, but would now seem he thought wrong. This movie takes a real stab (no pun intended) in the dark, occult world and the magic isnt too bad. Over all the movie was pretty damn good and had some tense suspense moments and was a great little thriller ride.
LEPRECHAUN ------------------------------------ There is little that can be said about a movie that spawned so many gut wrenching sequels.. The first one of course was good enough for a horror movie, and the second one had some good gore (uncut version only) But for the most part, I relaized after re-watching this one that well...it was boring. It begins with a family who moves into a house and stumbles across gold, alot of gold. Now of course the gold belongs to an evil little Leprechaun (Warwick Davis) who will kill anyone who tries to steal his gold. The movie goes through spurts of good violence, some humor, and maybe too much bore. NOTE; I said BORE not GORE The uncut versions are much better for gore galore hounds, but for over all horror movie fiends, this is one you could pass up. I liked the movie for itself overall, however the sequels leave too too much to be desired. Warwick Davis is best known for his little person movies such as Return of the Jedi. He was a good choice for the part, but unfortunately he was not good enough to keep up on the sequels which really blemished this movie. (As if it needed help)
THE LOST BOYS --------------------------------------- The Lost Boys was released in 1987, the same year as "Near Dark". Both movies were such kick ass films that it became a challenge which was better. Lost Boys won the debate If you want a damn good Vampire movie that keeps you on the edge of your seat, this is it. Joel Schumacher directed this classic film and it starred such greats as, Jason Patric, Keifer Sutherland, Corey Haim and Corey Feldman. It also has an ass kicking soundtrack to go right along with the movie. Jamie Gertz also played in the movie and her career took off much like Sutherland's and Feldman's. Feldman stars as a younger brother who is helping to run a comic book shop and the fact that they are "Vampire know it alls" leads he and his best friend to believe they can wipe out an entire Vampire cult. The focus of most 80's movies was drug addiction, and this movie was no different, it just handled it better. The movie has so little flaws that it was no surprise it won out over "Near Dark". If you are a parent who has ever wondered if your kids are sneaking out to join the wrong crowd...you might want to watch this movie. It is beyond any explanation other than to say it rocks. See it
