THEY LIVE
--------------------------
This 1988 movie really in my opinion was not a horror movie at all, but with John Carpenter behind the director's seat, it was a damn good movie none the less.

It starred rowdy wrestler, Roddy Piper and Meg Foster.
The plot was about a town whose residents appeared to be everyday normal neighbors and friends, but when seen through a pair of special sunglasses, were actually seen in their true form as aliens.
Signs up all over town that appeared to read normal everyday language were suddenly viewed through the glasses as direct orders for the aliens to follow.

As always the music score is fantastic, done of course by Carpenter and the acting isnt really all that bad.
Piper has a great fight scene towards the end with a friend of his while trying to get the man to put on the glasses and see for himself what is happening to the town.
Over all it isn't a bad movie, it just isnt what I consider horror.
TREMORS
-------------------------------
Tremors was directed by Ron Underwood, it was released in 1989 and again, much like "They Live", was not a horror movie.

It was however a good, fun movie that will make you laugh.
It stars Kevin Bacon (Footloose, Flatliners) Michael Gross (Family Ties) and country music singer, the beautiful Reba McIntyre.

The plot...well it seems this very large and VERY hungry sandworm like creatures are taking over a small town of maybe 45 people and turning them into a smorgesborg.
Bacon and his best friend (Fred Ward) who have been trying to leave the sleepy little town, run across a few victims (what's left that is) of former neighbors on their way out, and end up running for cover back to the town, to warn their remaining neighbors of what they found.

The movie is really good, has fun moments, but the ending to me was your normal everyday blah blah kiss the girl and move on ending.
Other than that it was enterntaining and had great acting from Fred Ward, Kevin Bacon and Reba.
See it if you get the chance.
THIRTEEN GHOSTS
-----------------------------------
Directed by Steve Beck and starring F. Murray Abraham, this 2001 horror movie was one you should not have missed.

Abraham plays a wealthy adventurer who gets the bright idea to catch ghosts and other spirits and use them in some sinister diabolical manner.
He enlists the help of a psychic investogator (Matthew Lillard) to help him catch and contain these ghosts.

Most of the ghosts captured met with very violent endings and therefore have become violent themselves, killing Abraham, who left his entire estate to his nephew.

When the nephew arrives at the home, he finds that his twisted uncle had captured a dozen ghosts and kept them trapped behind glass using an old ancient Latin spell.
He also finds Lillard waiting there, in disguise.

The best part of this movie is not the gore, but the actual plot.
The ghosts have somehow gotten out from behind the glass and can only be seen wearing special glasses (what is it with those shades??) and it is later learned that the house is a hall of mirrors, and the only opening or exit leads right into....yes, the gates of hell.

Surprisgnly enough a few critics didnt like this movie, they accused it of stealing from so many others that it took away from the movie's entirety.
I did not find that to be true at all, it has gore, violence, language problems for young adults and mainstream horror.
But more importantly it has suspense.
This is one movie you will want to own after you've seen it.
